Woody Allen Says It For The Oldies

Growing old is a pain - literally for most people over 70. But you have to laugh at this little joke of the Universe. Otherwise, you might cry.

I got a good giggle out of George Burns take on it. When he was asked how it felt to be 90, he took the cigar out of his mouth and replied: “Better than the alternative.”

Now, Woody Allen has given me a long chuckle .with his remarks at Cannes. Asked about aging, he said:

“My relationship with death remains the same. I am very strongly against it.

“I find it a lousy deal. There’s no advantage in getting older. I’m 74 now. You don’t get any smarter, you don’t get wiser, you don’t get more mellow, you don’t get more kindly.

“Nothing good happens. Your back hurts more. You get more indigestion. Your eyesight isn’t as good. You need a hearing aid.

“It’s a bad business getting older and I would advise you not to do it.”
